Colorful Evening

Even if it is 90 degrees, my love for jackets still lingers on. Pining for Fall, I decided to throw on this beautiful jacket I got on sale from ModCloth a few months ago. Talk about love, I might be falling for this dress by ShopGoldie. If you haven't checked them out yet, their advertisement is in my sidebar. The shoes you might say are a bit ridiculous, but I wear them so often they are almost a signature. I cannot believe they haven't been on the blog yet! The boy got them for our anniversary; he still calls me 'haute couture, queen of moonboots'. Stumbling around on train tracks is quite a fun way to spend an evening.

The Modern, Minimal Hippie

A bridge through the treetops overlooking the Cahaba River is the perfect spot to spend a Summer afternoon. The river and tree cover make it just cool enough to get by with something more than threadbare shorts and a shirt so short you are afraid to wear it out in public. The hippie fashion code is an easy one to crack, but making a hippie look one that is minimal is quite the challenge. This tie-dye dress and this long cloak make an impact without looking too busy.

Meet me at the Malt Shoppe

Happy Saturday, everyone! Have I ever told you that I absolutely love fifties clothing? The contented "I Love Lucy" era rings dear to my heart. I tried to capture the "feel good" ideals of said time period with this wonderful knee length spotted dress. The sweetheart neckline is enough for anyone to fall in love.

Pops Rock!

When it's this hot in Alabama, there's nothing better to do than find somewhere to cool down without wrecking your AC bill. The newly opened Steel City Pops provides just that, (not to mention organic popsicles to appeal to your sweet side). I wouldn't wear anything else to grab a sweet hibiscus pop. It is simply too steamy out to get by with anything but shorts, so why not have a little fun with creamy pastels?

A Golden Afternoon

I'm secretly in love with all of the cliché family photographs taken at the beach. Everyone is in a white button down and khaki shorts; they all have big obnoxious smiles on their faces as if being a family there and then is the best thing anyone could be doing. These memories hung on stair cases serve to remind everyone of, what then was, a simpler time, or so they would like to think.
No family here, just me with my take on these photographs. I took the opportunity to wear this white J-Crew dress and spend some time with the boy on our last day in the sun. There was something so irresistible about this vintage hat, I knew it was perfect for the beach!
There is something so serene about 6:45pmThe sun sets slowly, casting golden light in all directions.

Just a touch of tacky..

I couldn't resist this ridiculously tacky combo for a restaurant aptly named Tacky Jack's! My mother and I visit this place every time we visit the Gulf Coast; by this point, it's tradition! Mother always told me to never wear pink and red together, it just so happens to be one of my favorite color combinations!

Have a look around

A peek into my memory card shows the marvelous trip we have been having. The place we are staying is beautiful, the shopping is magnificent, and don't even get me started on the food! The boy came down and joined us, giving my mother a chance to slip away and get the rest she deserved. I cannot get over the perfect weather and the scenery! This should be one perfect week.

Best (Gulf) Coast

It's been a long year and an impromptu vacation was long overdue. My mother and I decided to ditch our responsibilities and go to the beach for a few days. I couldn't resist pairing a bright cardigan with an equally bright dress for a combo that screamed Summer for a breezy walk on the beach.

Instagram update!

These sure have been a busy and eventful past couple of weeks! I feel these three pictures sum it up very nicely.
1) I graduated High-school! I actually managed to give a classic look to my generic robe with some red heels and a pair of pearl earrings! I'm very glad to have graduated with my best friend, Haley (Pictured).
2) I'm very glad my roommate for next year and I get along so well. Anna came to Birmingham for some hanging out, and I feel that rooming with her will be effortless.
3) I took this picture outside the Rec center at the University of Alabama during my freshman orientation this week.

A Golden Anniversary

The boy and I celebrated our one year anniversary last week. He took me out for a lovely dinner at Taj India, and afterwords we spent some time getting coffee and walking around Mountainbrook Villiage. Wearing this gold dress from ModCloth was a very good choice; even in an intimate setting I was able to stand out and look fabulous!

Birmingham Fashion Blog

Hey everyone! A few days ago I e-mailed The Birmingham Fashion Blog asking if it would be possible to schedule a 'Blogger's Night Out" for some Birmingham Bloggers. Instead, I was surprised with this short but overly sweet feature they did on Felines and Fabric!
If you're a blogger in Birmingham, I seriously suggest following this blog. You can like them on Facebook, and stay updated with the latest Southern fashion events and styles.

Paisley?!

Who would have ever thought that my mother's closet could yield such amazing pants! I couldn't resist wearing them with this vintage blouse. The feminine collar and shoulder pads make this pale-pink (thrifted) shirt completely perfect in every possible way. Needless to say, I'm in love. It seems I spend half of my time in book stores and the other half drinking coffee. This is just one of those oh-so-frequent outings.

Funny Bunny

Happy Easter everyone! Though a few weeks late, I hope you all found yourselves with family and great food (and maybe a few chocolate eggs!) this Easter. Nothing says "Spring!" more than being outside and seeing the lovely color our garden turns. Everything is so lush, I would stay out there forever if not for the bugs!

Update!

Hey everyone! It's been so long- this blog has been on a bit of a hiatus until I could finish with some school work and theatre productions. All that being over, I have bunches of things to share with you! I have been keeping up with Instagram for the past few weeks, so here are some hilights!

(From left to right)
1. Vintage Ralph Lauren pants. Whoever said nobody looks good in paisley was telling falsehoods, friends.
2. Forest Perk! My favorite coffee hang out.
3. There are still balloons from Valentine's day floating in the Library. What? Where can I get some...
4. I've completely fallen in love all over again with Pablo Neruda. I've been scribbling copies of his poems on everything! I love that edition because it provides both the Spanish and English translations, I'm partial to Spanish myself, but whatever floats your boat.
5. I have been working non stop on The Wiz! Working on the lighting was quite interesting, and the show turned out very well. For my last High-School production, I couldn't have asked for anything better.
6. Since theatre is winding down, I've picked up painting again. Right now it's an abstract mess of nothing, but I hope to turn it into something.

Over all, these past few weeks have been hectic and exciting! I have fashion posts for Easter and other awesome times to come, so stay tuned!

April Fools, Coffee Rules

Crestwood Coffee is quite the "hipster" hang out. Lined with books and modern art, it is a haven for intellectuals and artists alike. The boy and I stopped in because our usual coffee hang-out was closed. We managed to escape the heat for a few minutes and ended up having some very interesting discussions. I can't seem to get enough of these moccasins or this green Target jacket! Not long 'til summer now! Happy April!

A Leopard Can't Change its Shoes...

Wow, it's been a busy week! Sorry I've not had time to update. All week I have been working tech-theatre for a show called Zap! We were let off from class Friday, and I had a sleep over with some members of my Tupperware club (a place for strong females in Birmingham). This week has been a blast of hectic, crazy fun. I caught up with the boy today and we spent the day walking around the Forest Park area. (Yes, it's possible to take a stroll in shoes like these!) A leopard can't change its spots, but I definitely had to change my shoes.
